About us

3D Weaving is a family business (SME) specialized in the production of 3D woven fabrics since 1971. This includes distance fabrics, multilayers, tubular fabrics or a combination in a more complex fabric. Every fabric is tailor-made for a specific customer. What yarn choice concerns, 3D Weaving has a lot experience with many different natural (cotton, flax, hemp, sisal…), synthetic (HT-PES, PA, aramid, UHMWPE yarn…) and mineral (basalt, glass…) yarns which can be multifilament, monofilament or spun yarns.
Because of the wide variety of weaving possibilities 3D Weaving is also widely spread in the market: Agrotech, Buildtech, Clothtech, Geotech, Hometech, Indutech, Medtech, Mobiltech, Oekotech, Packtech, Protech, Sporttech…
Innovation is the driving force in the textile industry. The knowledge and experience of 3D Weaving in the weaving process and materials are an added value to find the right properties of the finished product, in consultation with the customer.
Our main strengths are unique fabrics, quality, confidential cooperations and a crew with a mindset on innovation.

IEPERBAND NV
Early 1973 the American multinational Allied Chemical (later Allied Corporation) established a production plant called Klippan in Ieper, Belgium. Its task was to manufacture and assemble parts of safety belts to subassemblies. The final assembly was done in the European associated companies that also sold the products. At that time the company employed 600 people.
At the end of 1981 Klippan nv was closed due to economical reasons. Three months later the weaving mill started new production, yet its reduced version was no longer interesting to Allied and the company decided to sell Klippan. IEPERBAND nv was established in 1983.
Thanks to investments in looms and dyeing installations IEPERBAND nv soon grew and won a European market share of approximately 25%, in just a few years time.
To be able to survive in an extremely competitive market IEPERBAND nv merged with the German ELASTIC BERGER Gmbh company in 1987, co-manufacturer of woven band with establishments in Germany, Ireland and Spain.
BERGER GROUP
In Europe, the BERGER GROUP is a leader in the car safety belts industry and has production plants in Belgium, Spain, Germany and China. Besides Europe, it has smaller market shares in China and the United States of America.
The parent company in Germany was established by owner Johann Berger in 1968. First, only elastic bands were produced. Later on, the company discovered the potential of car safety belts.
The BERGER GROUP owes its success also to its approximately 400 committed, motivated and innovative employees. They form a valuable potential whereby development and innovation, aimed at the international market requirements, are at the centre.
The consequent development of the technical safety fabrics’ technology, based on the demands of the car industry, along with the help of the Tier 1 customers, offers the Berger Group an exclusive opportunity to develop and market new technologies.
ACTIVITIES
IEPERBAND nv manufactures woven band for safety belts in cars. This includes weaving, dyeing, setting, winding-up, checking and cutting to size.
The various types of bands are homologated by the Tier 1 customers and the car manufacturer, this means that the woven band is only produced after a formal approval of a particular reference sample. The base material is high tenacity polyester yarn.
The European safety belt market is characterised by its transparency and oligopolic features. The number of yarn suppliers, weaving mills manufacturing safety belts and system manufacturers is therefore rather limited. The pressure of Asian yarn suppliers increases. To maintain its competitive position the Berger Group works with Asian yarn suppliers
The overall annual use in the European car industry is a known and easy to observe item of information. The proportional market share of the various woven band manufactures is therefore rather easy to determine.
Cheap raw materials, labour costs control, flexibility and quality are becoming more and more the basic elements defining the power of the company.
Higher quality demands and the ever increasing price pressure forces us to constantly optimise our processes, and to manufacture in a more productive and cheaper manner.

Did you know?
The thistle is closely tied to the production of wool felt, and so its graphical depiction in the company´s logo is by no means an insignificant choice.
“Carding” designates the process of disentangling and cleaning bundles of wool intended for the production of felt. This term is derived from the French word for thistle – “chardon” – since, long ago, this process of refining and transforming wool was done with the aid of these thorny plants. Today, the bundles are placed in drums covered with very fine steel points and which are rotated in order to pull the wool fibers, remove any impurities and create a very fine and homogeneous material that will subsequently be felted.

De Saedeleir Textile GroupMore Info
”More than 120 years of experience in innovative and ecological textile solutions.”
De Saedeleir Textile Group (DSTG) is a family-owned business, established in the 19th century. With more than 120 years of experience, we design, develop and produce a wide range of innovative and ecological textile solutions for a wide variety of clients. What began in the early 20th century as a small business specializing in the collection and recycling of industrial waste materials including metals, rags and textiles, steadily developed into a globally-renowned manufacturer of needlepunched non-wovens.
Our history in a nutshell:
Late 19th century
Damiaan De Saedeleir, founding father of De Saedeleir Textile Group, starts trading as a small entrepreneur in the waste collection business. He collects, sorts and trades in rags and metals.
Early 20th century
Damiaan’s sons Pascal and Florent take over their father’s business and specialise in pulling the collected textiles and selling the raw fibres to textile companies in Flanders. The group now operates out of three locations in the village of Lebbeke.
Mid 20th century
Soon after World War II, DSTG begins to concentrate on collecting textile waste and regenerated fibres due to a shortage of raw materials. A third
generation of De Saedeleir brothers enter the business as Leo and Jean help their father to expand the company, before assuming control.
Late 20th century
The company is now growing at a rapid rate. The three locations in Lebbeke are now too small to cope, so DSTG moves to a 200,000m² industrial site in the nearby city of Dendermonde. Here they begin the production of polypropylene and polyester fibres, a European first at that time. DSTG is now aiming for global expansion under the new and dynamic management of the fourth generation of the family: Patrick, Pascal, Dirk and Kris De Saedeleir.
Early 21st century
DSTG expands globally by taking ownership of French textile company Sommer Needlepunch, which becomes an important part of the group. This takeover expands the product range significantly, enabling DSTG to explore new markets. Further growth follows with the launch of sales and service offices in the UK (Sommer Flooring Ltd), US (Sommer Flooring Inc), the Netherlands and Belgium (Cover Flooring NL/BE), while DS Fibras is launched in Mexico to serve the local automotive market.
