Biographical Info

CAPARA WAS FOUNDED IN ANTWERP, BELGIUM IN 2009 BY SISTERS VERA AND OLIVERA CAPARA.

BORN IN SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, RAISED IN LUDWIGSBURG, GERMANY, THEY BOTH CAME TO ANTWERP, BELGIUM AND GRADUATED IN FASHION IN 2000 FROM THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS.

 

AFTER GRADUATION FROM THE ACADEMY THEY BOTH WENT ON TO WORK AS DESIGN ASSISTANTS FOR DRIES VAN NOTEN IN ANTWERP, BELGIUM.

 

IN 2002 THEY PARTICIPATED IN THE RENOMATED COMPETITION FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS, AT THE FESTIVAL DE HYERES, AND PRESENTED THIS COLLECTION IN PARIS DURING WOMEN’S FASHION WEEK IN OCTOBER.

 

IN 2003 THEY STARTED WORKING TOGETHER AS DESIGNERS FOR MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA IN PARIS, WHERE THEY DEVELOPED THE ARTISANAL LINE FOR WOMEN AND MEN. FROM SUMMER 2006 ON THIS COLLECTION WAS PRESENTED DURING THE PARIS HAUTE COUTURE SHOWS.

 

AFTER WORKING FOR MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA VERA AND OLIVERA SEPERATED IN 2007 AND WORKED FOR DIFFERENT BRANDS, FOR DELVAUX IN BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, EUROPE’S OLDEST LEATHER GOODS COMPANY AND FOR RAF SIMONS AT JIL SANDER IN MILAN, ITALY.

 

IN 2012 CAPARA STARTED THE “TOGETHER COLLABORATION” WITH CAMPER SHOES, MALLORCA, SPAIN.

 

THE ASPIRATION OF THE LABEL CAPARA IS TO COMMUNICATE A COEXISTENCE OF A DESIGNED VISUAL WORLD, AN ATMOSPHERE TRANSLATED IN FASHION ACCOMPANIED BY WORDS, STORIES AND STATEMENTS. THE STATEMENT IS REFERRING TO SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL THEMES, INSPIRED BY LITERATURE, FILM, MUSIC AND TOPICALITY.
THE ESTHETICAL VISION OF CAPARA IS TO EMBODY INNOVATIVE YET ELEGANT DESIGNS, EMBRACING THE PRINCIPLES OF PROGRESS AND CONSTANT TRANSFORMATION WHILST RESPECTING THE NEED TO TAKE THE TIME TO STAND STILL, TO INHALE THE ZEITGEIST. THE LOVE OF EXPERIMENTING AND SEARCHING FOR NEW SHAPES AND PROPORTIONS WITHIN RECOGNISABLE GARMENTS IS THE UTTER GOAL. DEVELOPING NEW TECHNICS IN FABRIC RESEARCH IS A FURTHER FOCUS AND ACCOMPANIES THE CONCEPT OF THE COLLECTIONS.
ACCESSORIES CAN BE ADDED WHICH ARE DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH DIFFERENT ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS.
THE COLLECTIONS ARE EITHER PRESENTED AS READY TO WEAR SHOWS OR AS VIDEO INSTALLATIONS AND ARE REPRESENTED DURING WOMEN’S FASHION WEEK IN PARIS.
